Introduction to Finale
MTS 312

CONFUSED?

Have you been confused working with the powerful notation application Finale? Join the club!

Many users, some of them otherwise knowledgeable in music technology, crash and burn when they first try to make sheet music this way. Our seminar can help.

HANDS ON

In this "soup-to-nuts" seminar, we start with the basic elements of the software, introducing things in a simple, easy-to-understand way. We then build student understanding to a fairly advanced level using a "real-world" project/tutorial approach that helps bridge student work over into their own projects.

AFTERLIFE

Those completing the 10-week seminar should have a good idea how to make attractive sheet music and avoid typical pitfalls. For future reference, all study materials are posted online and may be accessed from home for at least a year.

RECOMMENDED

This seminar is highly recommended for the songwriter, composer/arranger, or anyone seeking to create great-looking sheet music. Let's clear up that confusion!

IS THIS FOR YOU?

This course addresses Finale at a basic level. We also offer an Advanced Finale course (MTS 313). If you are wondering which course is right for your, check our Finale placement page.

PREPARATION FOR A PROFESSIONAL FUTURE

Because many of our students are preparing for careers in music production, all our courses include significant career development content. In this course, we examine finding and pricing music preparation work, and project management. For students who have completed all three 100-level courses, completion of this course fulfills the requirements for OMTS certification.
