PUBLISHED SHEET MUSIC Are you familiar with the powerful notation application Finale, but wondering how to go that extra mile and able to create "publisher-quality" sheet music? Our seminar can help. REAL WORLD In our seminar we work with a single "real-world" project, starting from scratch and finishing with sheet music ready for publication. Along the way, we cover most key aspects of advanced Finale usage, including note entry, lyrics, articulation, page formatting, part extraction, and "polishing." We cover many areas of user confusion, and offer numerous tips that will increase the speed and quality of your Finale work. AFTERLIFE After completing the 10-week seminar, participants should have a good idea how to make publisher quality sheet music and avoid typical pitfalls. For future reference, all study materials are posted online and may be accessed from home for at least a year. RECOMMENDED This seminar is highly recommended for the songwriter, composer/arranger, or anyone seeking to create great-looking sheet music. Let's clear up that confusion! IS THIS FOR YOU? This course addresses Finale at an advanced level. We will also be offering a basic course, Introduction to Finale (MTS 312), in a future term. If you are wondering which course is right for you, check our Finale placement page. PREPARATION FOR A PROFESSIONAL FUTURE Because many of our students are preparing for careers in music production, all our courses include significant career development content. In this course, we examine finding and pricing music preparation work, and large project management. For students who have completed all three 100-level courses, completion of this course fulfills the requirements for OMTS certification. |
